VINE is an automated custody-information and notification service. VINELink is its public web interface. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office directs local users to VINE, and the Ohio Attorney General describes access around the clock with alert options by telephone, email, text message, or TTY. The service can contain someone currently confined or recently released when the source agency supplies that record.

When several people share a name, return to the originating record for a stronger identifier. MCSO may have a booking or case number, and ODRC uses a department number. A county of commitment in ODRC is the sentencing county, not a present address. These distinctions prevent a Montgomery court connection from being mistaken for a Montgomery jail or residential match.

Read labels literally. A custody status should be preserved exactly as displayed. A “released” event may mark the end of one agency's control, but another agency may receive the person. A recent-release result has no promised permanent retention period. A record can later disappear. Conversely, a source update can be delayed. That makes screenshots, alert messages, and notes useful for chronology, but none replaces an official release or transfer record.
Event order can resolve conflicts. If VINE sends a release notice before a court image appears, preserve the alert and revisit the docket. PRO says filing images commonly lag forty-eight to seventy-two hours. If a county event is followed by an ODRC admission, the likely chain is transfer from jail to state prison, not freedom. Confirm the MCSO destination field before stating that conclusion.
A transfer alert and a release alert can both mark a change in location, but they answer different questions. Record the wording rather than paraphrasing it as “out.” If the alert names only the end of Montgomery County custody, ask MCSO whether another agency accepted the person. Montgomery VINE PIN Acknowledgment
For telephone and TTY notices, VINE asks the registrant to enter the chosen four-digit PIN followed by the pound sign. That response tells the automated service the intended recipient acknowledged that status alert. It also stops repeat calls for that event. If a call is not answered or acknowledged, VINE may leave voicemail and retry until acknowledgment or a state-dependent limit.
The PIN has one narrow role. It is not an inmate number, a portal password, government certification, or proof that the recipient personally saw a release occur. Never publish it with a screenshot or share it as an identifier. If an alert reports release, preserve the label, time, and source, then contact that source agency.
MCSO Montgomery VINE Access
Montgomery County has a documented local access layer. The MCSO VINE page directs users to the service and lists the Ohio line at 800-770-0192 and TTY at 866-847-1298. That local route is especially useful because JusticeWeb is a current-only jail roster and publishes no historical release archive.
The page proves that MCSO points Montgomery users toward VINE. It does not itself publish a retention window, alert PIN rules, or a preserved live result that proves which agency supplied a particular person record. A current released or judicial-release status is stronger evidence, while an APA result may show that prison custody ended but supervision continues.
County probation is separate from APA. A person released to local community control may appear in the sentencing docket and Montgomery Common Pleas Probation records without an APA result. Likewise, a VINE event does not identify the full terms of supervision. Use the docket for local court control and the ODRC detail for state parole or post-release control.
